scott walker

Scott Walker is a New York City based fine artist and a recent graduate from Parsons the New School for Design with a BFA in Fine Art. His work combines his interests in craft, care, gender, and sexuality. His work utilizes traditional fiber craft techniques, most often embroidery, quilting, and macrame. Fiber crafts reference familial histories and traditions, as well as the domestic spaces in which crafted works are created and displayed. Scott grew up with a mom who embroidered and a grandma who knitted, along with other female family members working in fiber crafts. Scott's craft work imitates these labors of love. Through his work, Scott grapples with the queer experience and celebrates effeminacy. He confronts toxic masculinities that cause him discomfort. His work is also nostalgic, revisiting a childlike version of himself and celebrating aspects of himself that he hid out of shame when in the closet.

kate barbee

Kate Barbee is an interdisciplinary artist with a repertoire spanning from hand-embroidered mixed media paintings to collages and drawings. Each creation is a narrative, probing the fluid, adaptive nature of identity in the presence of ever-changing environments; Texas, Los Angeles, Paris and now New York.
To gaze upon her large scale paintings is to be invited into a dialogue through windows of embroidered symbols and locations. Her subjects push and pull through a fractured composition— intimately spaced and dynamically posed, creating an energy and rhythm which forces the eye on a nonlinear journey throughout the canvas. Barbee’s figures reveal themselves slowly as they emerge from the tactile, multi-hued, collaged, and textile-laden canvases which they populate. Her works harness an exceptional degree of emotional and figurative distortion. And every painting is a snapshot of the self, posing to the viewer poignant questions about the fluidity of selfhood in a world of changing spaces.

CASEY PEREZ Jewelry

1st generation Mexican-American designer Casey Perez found her way to jewelry unexpectedly. While studying at New York University, she came across a metalsmithing course where she learned centuries-old jewelry making techniques to transform raw materials and bring her ideas to life. It was this alchemical process that captured her heart and inspired her to embark on a new path. Casey’s love of art and design greatly informs her work, drawing inspiration from an artful lexicon of influences ranging from modernist architecture to sculpture. The results are unique handcrafted pieces that are at once visual explorations and intimate expressions. Casey Perez Jewelry celebrates creativity and personal discovery through refined and artistic pieces that capture the imagination. Our inspiration draws from the modern and timeless shapes of architecture, sculpture, and the natural world to transport you to a world of wonder and inspiration. Behind MALKA DINA is artist/designer Elana Noy. A New York City native, Elana is based in Brooklyn, NY where she handcrafts her designs in her studio. From metal smithing to handmade pottery to handwoven textiles, Elana almost solely utilizes techniques that were invented hundreds, if not thousands, of years ago. As she approaches these mediums and means of production, she looks for unexplored territory in technical approach and formal innovation. Shapes are often inspired by nature, the body and ancient architecture, whereas textiles and fiber techniques are typically used to inform surface decoration. Her main objective is to expand the usual application of any given medium to create objects unlike anything that has been seen before.

Flora Zhai/

Flora Zhai Jewelry

“I'm a metal artist of zhuang and Han Chinese decent and identify as non binary and Pansexual. I spent the first half of my childhood in Yunnan China, a province in China that shares a border with several different countries and is very diverse in cultures and climates, while the other half was spent in Southern New Jersey when I immigrated with my mother. My work is heavily inspired by my background and my queer identity.

I approach jewelry making in a very sculptural way of putting my own spin on nature. I take the things from nature that make me think of something beyond what it is. like the pattern of a butterfly that makes me think of 1980's Sci fi or a frank Stella painting, and create metal pieces that convey that imagery to attach to the original object that inspired my idea. So much of my inspiration comes from modern culture like Sci fi, 80's goth/ new wave aesthetics, fetish wear and post modern paintings, so seeing imagery that makes me think of those relatively modern aesthetics on a butterfly that has existed for thousands of years absolutely fascinates me. My love for weird aesthetics stems from my experience growing up in a mostly white conservative suburb and consistently feeling othered. my jewelry is my way of exploring otherness through nature, tying my immigrant experience with my early childhood experience.” - Flora Zhai

JACKIE StANLEY

Jackie Slanley is a first-generation Vietnamese American artist living in Brooklyn, NY.

“In my work I reimagine and recontextualize mythological objects and symbols to explore the relationship between fiction, social structures, history, and experience. I start by collecting images from antiquity looking for symbols that are enduring, meaning they have undergone a long process of recycling, rebirth, mutation, and fetishization. The images that I work with allows for the examination of storytelling and how it aided in building our social ideals and identity. The objects and images coupled with readymade materials are edited in essence to evoke visceral reactions alluding to our survival. The result are speculative objects that speaks to ritual, myth, and power.”

Pipcorn was born in 2012, when Jeff Martin was helping his sister, Jen move apartments. With everything packed up except a bag of tiny heirloom popcorn kernels that Jen found in the Chicago health food store where she worked, they popped batch after batch of the most delicious popcorn they’d ever had! They liked this one so much, they tracked down the Indiana farmer who grew it from his family’s heirloom seed stock. Together with Jeff’s wife, Teresa, they created a new company, Pipsnacks™

Yves-Olivier was born and raised in San Francisco, CA and studied at the Rhode Island School of Design where he received his Bachelors of Fine Arts in Ceramics and Graphic Design. His current focus is on his "Porncelain," a reappropriation of fine china as a means of confrontation and conversation between tenets of ‘the christian home’ with the adversity of growing up queer in a conservative household. By placing images of gay pornography on fine porcelain, he creates his own china sets that present the dichotomy between wholesome family values and dereliction of homosexuals within the home.

Julia’s work is influenced by scientific illustration, printmaking, folk art, and the natural environment of her childhood – a rural coastal area of Northern California. She specializes in illustrative blackwork, primarily natural themes – plants, animals, humans, science, and magic, and has experience tattooing al skin tones and body types.

“I believe tattooing can be an incredibly healing process, both in the act of applying the tattoo, and in the reclamation and ownership of one’s body via adornment. Tattooing has helped me to love the vessel I reside in and I hope to share the empowerment with others.”

Lauren is thrilled to now have her own studio - She Bop Hair Studio - to call home with her hair partner in life, Nora Croft, after navigating the NYC salon industry for more than a decade.

It is fitting to be in a co-working studio space with other artists because they view their work--our craft--as its own artform. She’s combined her background of studying fine art and painting with her skills and techniques to treat each head of hair as her canvas. She specializes in balayage highlights (a hand painted French technique) draped over her customized cuts. Simply put - her goal is to provide you with a unique look catered to your overall aesthetic and hair type.

She is trained in Wella color, olaplex and Kevin Murphy products. It is not only her priority to enhance your look, but also to provide you with an enjoyable and comfortable experience while doing so!
When she’s not spinning heads in Brooklyn, she’s hanging upstate with her husband at their home in Beacon, NY where you'll find her painting in her garage studio, crafting recipes in the kitchen or working on their garden in the backyard.

Trace is a brooklyn-based colorist/stylist working at SheBop every other friday. “I’ve got a head full of curls, and I know how to use them! I’m a born and raised Brooklyn girl with a background in fine arts and music. I sing and play guitar in a band with my sister and brother-in-law. In college, I studied printmaking and worked in hand painted wallpaper for many years after. In addition, I have a long history of work experience in restaurants and hospitality. About 10 years ago, I decided to combine my service industry experience with my creative drive, and that has led me to become the colorist and curly hair specialist that you can trust to help your hair dreams come true.”
